Heo traditional musical instruments are an inseparable part of the rich cultural heritage of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. However, the challenges of preserving it in the modern era are increasing due to changes in lifestyle and the lack of young people interested in learning about it. This research aims to explore efforts to preserve traditional Heo musical instruments through extracurricular activities at Sion Kakuun Christian Middle School. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach, involving data collection through in-depth interviews, observation and analysis of related documents. The research results show that extracurricular activities at the school are effective in arousing students’ interest in learning and playing Heo musical instruments. Supporting factors include the role of teachers and local communities in providing adequate support and resources for learning. However, the main challenge faced was the lack of sufficient time for regular practice and an in-depth understanding of the history and techniques of playing Heo musical instruments. This research provides valuable insight into efforts to preserve local culture through formal and informal education approaches in secondary schools
