EVOLUSI SASANDO: PERUBAHAN DAN PERKEMBANGAN SASANDO DITINJAU DARI SEGI PERTUNJUKAN

Abstract

Sasando is a traditional musical instrument originating from East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Apart from being a symbol of government, sasando is the identity of the people of East Nusa Tenggara. Sasando has become a symbol in promoting East Nusa Tenggara in the fields of arts, culture and community tourism. In the culture of the people of Rote Island, which is the area where the Sasando musical instrument originates, this musical instrument is displayed at almost every traditional cultural event in the community. In recent years, sasando has often been performed at various ceremonial events in Indonesia and even in various parts of the world. This phenomenon shows that the sasando, which in the tradition of the people of Rote Island is used as an instrument to accompany regional dances and songs, is now evolving, being displayed at music festivals, ceremonial events, arts, cultural performances and tourism promotions in Indonesia and even in various countries. Therefore, this research focuses on discussing the development of sasando in terms of its form, structure and function as seen from the perspective of performance practice.
