Abstract

This study aims to develop variations of conventional block notation reading techniques and introduce mirror reading techniques, especially in the application of reading sheet music in piano lessons. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research method. The research was conducted online at their respective homes through online media Whatsapp and Zoom Meeting and online at the residence of Mrs. Tetty Chrisdiana Manik for a period of 4 months starting from March to June 2021. The results of this study indicate that the mirror reading technique in reading block notation can be done as a variation of the technique of reading block notation as has been applied by Mrs. Tetty Chrisdiana Manik. However, the method used in piano learning carried out by Mrs. Tetty remains the same as piano learning in general, namely by question and answer methods, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and experiments, giving assignments, giving exercises and so on so that mirror reading becomes a new variation in piano learning.
